Family run from our inception, Grand City Supply has evolved from delivering shopping bags to supermarkets, to major suppliers of janitorial and sanitary supplies to various types of businesses throughout the boroughs of New York. These businesses include the private school sector, religious establishments, property management firms and the food service and hospitality industry, just to name a few. Our staff is comprised of a mix of multi-cultural and multi-lingual experts with roots in places like Greece, Hungary, Israel, Colombia, Ecuador and Ireland. As one can imagine, these backgrounds have different voices, but we do share one common goal, to grow the business the “right way”. Because this is a competitive industry with many players, we had our share of growing pains along the way. Learning from these experiences and listening to each other’s ideas, we have developed and refined a certain philosophy on how to conduct business that truly caters to the customer.
During our humble beginnings, we found a niche in the private school sector. This market was in need of a cost-effective solution to everyday maintenance due to the necessary rising cost of tuition and the subsequent drop in enrollment. Through exhaustive research, we found competitive ways to help these institutions with their bottom line and still turn a small profit. We then employed this strategy in the smaller business sector and proved the classic theory that in any economy, today more so than ever, keeping costs low and working on higher volume is the only way to grow a business in a competitive market. In every industry, all companies adopt the slogan “great customer service with competitive prices”. But in order to accomplish this effectively, requires a strong commitment to every facet of the day to day process. What do we do different you might ask? Every business has different needs and preferences, so initially, while comparing apples to apples, we assess what the customer “actually” needs and make suggestions with savings and efficiency in mind. Many supply companies will low ball to gain business, then either swap out product brands and/or increase prices in stages until the next company comes along and tries the same thing. We tirelessly work to shop for the best pricing from all our existing wholesalers and manufacturers, as well as researching outside our circle, until we can work with a margin that makes cost sense for the customer. We suggest ways to save, by tailoring each product to the customers need. It’s almost like having a personal shopper at your disposal.
From the drivers, warehouse and delivery personnel up to the office staff, cultivating long lasting relationships with our customers is the main goal here, not the quick sale.
